Hot Hide glue, X-tra strong

For all of you who are interested in working with hot glue: the production and use of hot (hide or bone) glue is a living tradition here in Europe, some small companies are still producing hot glue from various materials (beef hide, bone, bladder of the sturgeon/caviar fish etc.).
Here in Europe it is still used for restauration of antique furniture, traditional book making - and of course for instrument making.

We found a small company that is producing an extra-strong hide glue from beef hide for us that has the same strong bondage like old "Hasenleim" (= hare/rabbit glue) without its disadvantages (tendency of cold creeping).

Prepare/use like regular hot hide glue, strictly avoid temperatures above 60 degree Celsius (= 140 degree Fahrenheit) at any stadium (collagenes get destroyed otherwise), 55-58 degree Celsius (= 131-137 degree Fahrenheit) are recommended for best usage.

Do NOT use any brushes for application that contain metals (this makes the glue weak)! Any cheap plastic brush will work fine.

Sold in 100 grams bags (200, 500 and 1000 grams on request).

Hint for the Les Paul replica maker: 100 gram hide glue pearls will be good for the gluing of the "vintage joints" (holly headstock veneer, "ears", neck to body) for several Les Pauls.

Preparation:
Fill the hide glue pearls in a glass and cover it generously with cold water, let solve and stir from time to time, then add (a bit) more water and heat i.e. using a baby glass warmer up to the above given temperature and use it with a metal free brush.

Adding a pinch of vitamin C (ascorbin acid) pevents mold, store cold (fridge).

Once solved you can fill up portions (i.e. using an ice bag) for freezing, this way you can quickly prepare the individual quantity of hot hide glue for your project.
