After long research and time for collecting the info reg. vintage specs and dimensions from vintage Les Paul´s we are happy to offer - according our knowledge - the first and yet only vintage-correct template set.
All data were collected over the past years by our friends from SavantGuitars and are based (among others) on personal info from Burst owners incl. Tom Wittrock and of course from numerous internet sources, that were carefully verified.
All templates are available individually, please ask if interested in an partially upgrade of your existing set from other sources.
For the serious replica maker we offer the templates in two sets at a discounted price: there is a "Body template set" and a "Neck template set", each of them containing several routing templates (and extras).
These templates are laser-cut to highest precision, material: 6mm birch-multiply
This NECK SET contains the following templates/parts:
1. template for vintage LP-headstock incl. pointed holes for tuners and vintage "squarish-sized" cavity for the logo.
This template does not end at the nut position but reaches into the 1st fret location for better routing this area (transistion headstock->1st fret).
A drill sized 11/32" (8.7mm) for drilling the vintage sized hole for the tuner bushings you can find here.
2. template for neck side profile for 17degr. headstock angle and 1.5" heel width and 15.0mm headstock thickness.
Back (headstock, heel, neck) is done a bit ovesized for final adapting (sanding) according your actual project.
3. template for routing the long tenon to the neck (1.5" width); the long part with center marks next to the part of the tenon is made precisely to neck width of 2.25" for an excellent aligning along the neck.
Template includes the exact position for the anchor of the truss rod: just mark and drill.
Vintage style truss rod set you can find here.
5. template for doing the vintage old-rule-of-18 scale incl. routing cavities for the crown inlays
The fret slots are set to 0.5mm / 0.019" width so you can use a regular razor blade (whose regular width is a bit less than 0,5mm) for copying/marking the slot positions precisely to the fretboard, then do the fretslots with the fretting equipment of your choice accordingly.
You can use this template for routing the vintage sized crown cavities and the crowns inlays, too! In case you have Dave Johnson´s vintage crown inlay set: this fits excellent into the cavities you can rout with this template!
This template indicates the nut position as well as center marks for excellent positioning of the cavities + slots.
6. template for sizing the width of the fretboard
This template is for tapering a fretboard to the vintage width; taper is set to the wider side of vintage correct fretboard widths (1st fret 43,5mm, end is 57,2mm), but it is flexible due to the lengthwise oversized geometry of this template: you can move it down and will result in a smaller width of the final board. Just check the template for your desired width at 1st fret and move this point to the according part of your fingerboard and rout flush.
NOTE: the template is indicated "-B" (= minus Binding = width prior installing the binding), width is set to "prior binding", so you can use this template for sizing the width of your fretboard before installing the binding. No more guesswork and sanding, just install the frets and rout along the template through the wood and through the (soft) frets and you are ready to install the 1mm-binding within minutes, resulting in the given (final) width at 1st fret and end.
Celluloid fretboard binding set you can find here.
3/32" drill bit for side dots you can find here.
Celluloid for making your own crown inlays you can find here.
Vintage sized fretwire you can find here.
Vintage style truss rod set you can find here.
7. templates for heel contour as well as templates for the neck back profile at 1st and 11th fret
8. template for doing the 2.0 (Flying V) + 4.0 (Les Paul) degree cut to the neck
This is a combined template for doing the typical neck angle cut to the side of the neck for a Flying V or a vintage Les Paul guitar.
9. SAVE: this set comes with a nylon 6/6 nut blank for free.
This set is good for making a full 1959 Les Paul neck, right for accepting the hardware of your choice (hardware not included): you can start your project right out of the box.
